Family Meeting’ Works to Get Clubhouse Completed

From The Retrospect

At the behest of the Haddon Township school board, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Raivetz said he called a meeting to get town leaders together to discuss the stalled progress of the new clubhouse at the Recchino sports complex on Crystal Lake Ave.

The clubhouse, funded and constructed by the Haddon Township Athletic Association on school board property, faces several problems, including a general contractor that appears to be going out of business before completing the job and an incomplete building that does not meet elevator code requirements.
With these hurdles, Raivetz said the best way to help the project along was to call a “family meeting” of school, township and HTAA officials.
According to Mayor Randy Teague, HTAA President Bob Davy assured meeting attendees that the association had enough funds to complete the project. Davy could not be reached for comment.
As reported in The Retrospect (Nov. 20, 2009, “New Financial Detail Cloud Clubhouse Progress”), project manager and general contractor DesignBuild Affiliates informed a subcontractor, TriState Fire, that they are no longer in business.
HTAA officials promised others at the meeting to put the needed elevator work out to bid. According to Bonnie Richards, the township’s technical assistant in the construction office, HTAA can install a special type of elevator known as a LULA (limited use limited application) and meet state code requirements.
Richards also confirmed that the construction office issued another temporary certificate of occupancy (TCO) so that the first floor of the clubhouse may be used. The TCO allows use of the bathroom facilities and will need to be renewed in early January.
“There is a path in place for the association to get the LULA,” Raivetz said. He noted that clubhouse project is not run by the school board or township- a common misconception. “HTAA is essentially a private organization,” Raivetz noted.
At the suggestion of board president Mark Cavallo, Raivetz added, the assembled family agreed to meet again in January to check on progress.
“I think everyone left the meeting feeling better,” concluded Raivetz

I have asked for the information on the where and when the drawing for this in Haddon Township would take place and I receive no answer from the Haddon Township government people I have sent e-mails to. The article in the Retrospect says there is going to be random drawings and I would like to know the information on those drawings. Who would be the one to answer this question in Haddon Township?

  2. I think Kate Burns would be the person to ask for info on the drawing.

  3. I did e-mail Ms Burns and also sent note to mayor, commissioners, township clerk and have not received a reply. I do not understand if there was this type of thing done why would it take so long for an answer for when the drawing would be held? Maybe one of the participating locations would be able to let me know from the htbid.org site shown on the flyer

  4. the flyer is able to be opened on this site

  5. This statement from Dr. Raivetz written in the above article:

“HTAA is essentially a private organization,” Raivetz noted.

“essentially a private organization” – what does that mean?

  6. Having followed up my emails to Police Chief Cavallo and the newspapers, I received the information on the $10,000 from Ms. Burns on December 17th–

    Dear Citizen:

I apologize but your e-mail was delivered into my junk e-mail box. I was forwarded your e-mail by a co-worker and it was received in my inbox this morning. The drawing will be held tomorrow at 12:00 PM in the Annex building. All winners will then be notified.

    Happy Holidays!
    Best,
    Kate Burns
