Haddon Twp. conservation group gets $5,000 grant

From the Courier Post

Subaru of America awarded a $5,000 general operating grant to the Saddler’s Woods Conservation Association in Haddon Township

The funding will be used to continue association’s conservation projects for Saddler’s Woods, a 25-acre old growth forest on MacArthur Boulevard in Haddon Township.

Subaru employees and their families also joined other volunteers during the association’s EarthDay and National Trails Day restoration events. Subaru employees helped remove invasive plants, refurbish trails, pick up litter and plant trees during both outings.

They were among the more than 200 volunteers who help maintain the trails at Saddler’s Woods each year.

The association, which has more than 100 members, also offers educational programs for children, tours of the woods for all ages, and educational presentations to groups by request.

Since its creation in 2004, the association has received more than $120,000 in restoration grants from organizations like the William G. Rohrer Foundation, Conservation Resources, Inc., and REI of Marlton as well as public agencies like the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the Camden County Division of Environmental Affairs.

  1. Great news! This is a very dedicated group of people, and they have done an excellent job for our community, and for the preservation of these historic and beautiful Woods. Cudos!

  2. I agree. This is one group that has truly made a difference in preserving our town.

  3. there’s a class for young kids in Saddler’s woods that is awesome. My son LOVES it.

  4. on a different note, I was just made aware that there were break ins around the corner from my house.
Is there a police email blast or something where myself and neighbors could have been made aware of this?

  5. You can check with the police dept. I’m not sure who is now in charge of the Community but there used to be an email that went out to different neighborhoods. I haven’t seen that in awhile. We were not notified when there was an attempted abduction of a child in our area.

They say they notified the school but my son does not go to this district anymore so I never heard anything until a week later when I read it in The Retrospect.

  6. (2) Articles in THE RETROSPECT regarding Haddon Township

Would there be a conflict with the Township schools or the Township governing body using the 1st National Colonial bank in Collingswood – isn’t Linda Rohrer on the board of that bank and hasn’t the Rohrer Foundation given money to both the schools, township (and the Haddon Township Athletic Association)?

Doing some research work the following article came up about some history in Haddon Township

Was the second mayor of Haddon Township a police officer at the time of this incident?

  7. It is amazing to me the size of the advertisements in THE RETROSPECT for the Haddon Township events being held today. The July 2nd paper has an ad that takes up almost half the page – the day before the event., and I do believe there was one in last week’s paper. Who pays for these ads??? How long are they shutting down Haddon Ave for this event on Saturday? What does this do to the business people for a Saturday of the Fourth of July weekend? The business improvement district “taxation” is probably paying and people will not be able to get to the businesses for how long on Saturday. I guess it’s a good think Haddon Township municipal government has that money from those businesses from those taxes so they can “shut down the main street”.

  8. this info also shows on your web site ms obrien – hope you are having a good week in the Outer Banks

Subj: Smash Palace/SARA O’BRIEN at the Ritz! E-mail flyer

I’m writing to the Haddon Township municipal government to ask a question regarding an e-mail sent out advertising the SMASH PALACE/SARA O’BRIEN concert at the RITZ on July 11th.

Why was this sent out from the municipal government, which I presume it was, since it shows the municipal government address on the bottom.

Why is the Haddon Township municipal government involved with this?????

Doesn’t Christine Hopkins own that SoHo Salon?? Isn’t she on the planning board and the business district board?? Is that something to do with this??? Does this involve money from the business district tax money???

    Interested to know!
